UNANIMOUS DUP support in the House of Commons for a December 12 General Election has been described as “an unprecedented act of electoral generosity” by a respected Northern Ireland political commentator.
Mr Alec Nolan-O’Doherty has described DUP support for the election as “something akin to buying a new 10 grand car knowing it will drop a grand in value the second you drive out of the showroom”.
“Emma Little Pengelly is blootered in South Belfast,” said Mr Nolan-O’Doherty, “that’s a grand away for a start.
“Top DUP MP and party Deputy Leader Nigel Dodds is on a demographic knife edge in North Belfast, especially with the UUP not playing ball.
“And what with Naomi Long stampeding up Gavin Robinson’s bum in East Belfast, the DUP could be down to 7 grand, erm I mean MPs.
“By anyone’s standards this is extremely generous of them, electorally speaking, to be voting for something that will undo them, handing seats to Alliance, Sinn Fein and possibly the Green Party as well.
“Though that really sums up their Brexit strategy from all along,” mused Mr Nolan-O’Doherty, “and in a peculiar way, it is the DUP and not the Integrated Education movement that deserves the Nobel Peace Prize nomination.
“They are turning out to be far more generous than many who talk a better talk than they do,” he concluded.
